Christmas is behind us now – well behind me – and we return to normality, if my life, our lives, can ever be described as normal. Our normal is not normal for most but is hugely abnormal.
Christmas happiness is a fleeting occurrence lasting only as long as presents are opened and appreciated. Soon, all to soon, the drabness, the drudgery, the difficulties of everyday life recover their poise and rule our lives like the vicious tyrants they are.
A birthday soon to be lifts no corner of gloom, brings no brightness. So sad but true. Another year of my allotted span gone without trace, without lightness, without hope and without change.
With no change, despair, loneliness and poverty await in 2009 but where is there hope of a changed, or even changing, life away from the tyrants? Far distant, receding as each hour passes, hope’s light dims until …… not even the most powerful telescope would find.
“Hope springs eternal”, they say.
Well, I bloody need that to be true ……. soon!

Well, Calum my friend, I think you have a good point here.
All the 'Hope springs eternal' stuff is and always has been a sop to the masses to help them accept the miserable circumstances forced upon them.
There's also the neatly hidden British research that confirms the semi-delusional state that 'normal' non-depressed people invariably go around in.
Jeez, you have to delude yourself that there's any reason for hope in our world now...better to grasp the nettle and deal with the awful realities!
Gautama said this didn't he? That 'all life is suffering', no sense in ducking it; best way to deal with it is to stop wanting any different and be mindful about what you are doing in the present to add/take away from the despair. Harsh but it works for millions apparently.
I'm very sad you feel so dejected, but sincerely wish you all power in tackling the realities!
I really do hoppe 2009 is a better year for you and your family Calum
I agree with Jams, I hope you have a much better 2009!
